Dr Qing Ou holds a BE in mechatronics engineering and a Ph.D in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury. Qing Ou has been involved in development of vibration monitoring equipment since 2012. Vibration monitoring and analysis is a technique to detect early machine anomalies before it fails, hence maintenance can be scheduled and machine downtime can be minimised. Common machine problems are imbalance, misalignment, looseness and bearing defects. Qing is a certified CATII vibration analyst.

The Story

NZ Miniature Bearings Ltd was founded in 2010 by Qing Ou (a.k.a King Au). King has got his mechatronics engineering degree with first class honours and a Ph.D degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. King has always been passionate about robotics, automation, mechanical and electronic designs in general. During his undergraduate study, he was struggled to find affordable bearings locally in New Zealand for building his track-drive robot. Back then, buying miniature bearings has to be a trade-off between cost and turnaround time, neither was desirable for an energetic young man who was tight in budget but eager to bring his design to life. Consequently, King founded NZ Miniature Bearings, and started to supply bearings to like minded people. King believes bringing the supply chain closer to the designers can fuel innovation, and supplying affordable bearings is a step forward to this direction.
